Spanish For Your Second Language

In the United States the Spanish community is growing, and just for this fact, it could become important to learn the Spanish language. In this article I will reveal to you my method of learning Spanish, and I hope that it may benefit you also.

When I first heard a conversation in Spanish I felt out of place simply because I did not understand a single word of the conversation. It then became my determination that this was not going to happen ever again. Learning to speak Spanish is not hard to do. When you start listening to the pronunciations you will be surprised by the amount of words that sound similar to the English pronunciations.

My way of learning was to start listening to Spanish music, and by watching the many different Spanish television shows. Repeating the words many times, and if I did not understand the meaning, I would either use my dictionary, or ask a Spanish speaking person what the meaning of the word was.

By watching Spanish channels on the television it will show images with the words. By carefully observing the programs, and the repeat of words with the images, I could soon make a connection between the words and the meaning.

This is when I started to feel more comfortable with the Spanish language and moved myself up to listening to Spanish music. Of course, by just listening to the music I did not have any images, however from watching television I could just picture in my thoughts the images that belonged to the singing Spanish musicians.

This method will take time to master but is not impossible to do. Also many Spanish speaking people that notice you have an interest in learning to speak their language are more then willing to assist you in learning.

In many work places, you will absolutely have a great advantage of being able to speak Spanish. Just for the fact that there is a very high demand out there in the market right now for assisting Spanish speaking people. Your chances to be hired for a specific job title, and also your chances for a higher income, is definitely increased by simply learning to speak Spanish.

Forget the Free Learning Spanish Games - Try a Night at the Movies Instead!

free learning spanish gamesYou may find that free learning Spanish games are the cheap way to learn a new language, but I think that there is a better way. If you like to watch cable television or movies, then you are in for a real Spanish lesson treat. One of the most entertaining ways to either get a real feel for the Spanish language or to fine “tune” your present language skills, is to watch movies or TV in Spanish (where available).

I know a few of my Puerto Rican friends that learned to speak English just by watching cable television shows broadcast in English with Spanish subtitles scrolling along the bottom of the screen. This was one of the least expensive ways of learning a language, but it certainly isn’t a method for everyone. Most people that I know who are attempting to learn a foreign language do much better in a more structured environment using a purchased language course.

However, using either cable television or rented movies is a fine supplement to your resident spanish course. To learn Spanish quick and easy, you need to add a little fun into the learning process!

If you belong to a DVD membership club, like NetFlix, you can usually locate Spanish movies through the site’s search function. Surprisingly, there are quite a few movies in the foreign categories that are purely in Spanish. These DVD’s generally have an option to turn on the English (or Spanish) subtitles to help with the translation, if needed. You can opt for the Spanish subtitles if you want to read the actual text along with the spoken words.

I have just rented a DVD from NetFlix, “Pan’s Labyrinth”, that is very entertaining and a great way to learn Spanish. It is a highly rated movie in Spanish with both English and Spanish subtitles - your choice. You really don’t need to have mastered the language to appreciate the story line and the acting in this film.

So if you are the proverbial couch potato or movie buff, learn Spanish quick and easy with a night at the movies (your home theater works just fine). Why bother with the free learning Spanish games when you can learn a new language just by watching fascinating movies and cable programs?

spanish language learn speak Looking for a fun way to sharpen your Spanish language skills? Take a trip to the movies and learn and speak the Spanish language while you’re having a night out.

Your challenge may be to find a Spanish language movie in the local multiplex, but many art houses and specialty theatres bring in foreign movies to show. Most have English subtitles, so if you hit a rough spot interpreting the Spanish, you can always take a peak the subtitles.

Don’t Forget Your Local Video Store

Another option is to check out the local video store. Depending on their foreign film selection, you may come across a few Spanish classics. A better bet is to peruse the selection of foreign films at NetFlix if you are a member. They have a rather extensive selection of foreign films and you can have your own fun-filled Spanish class right in the comfort of your own home!

Stay Up-to-Date on New Spanish Film

If you like to surf the Internet, you can find reviews of the latest Spanish film releases at a number of websites. Not too many are in English, but About.com has a section on international and independent films that are playing in the U.S.
If you feel adventurous, try calling up a Spanish website that follows new releases of Spanish language movies. Try checking out sites like Zinema.com or Cine Adeptos.com and give your new Spanish reading skills a whirl.
